Ojiya-chijimi [UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage, National Important Intangible Cultural Property]
This exquisite fabric is created by carefully weaving individual weft threads to match a pattern, using warp threads prepared from ramie, a high-quality hemp, which is finely broken down and joined together to form a single long thread. It is said that 900 hand movements are required to weave just one shaku (approximately 30 cm) of fabric.
The individuality of each color woven into the stripes of Ojiya-chijimi adds an elegant touch, and the unique crimp (shibo) created by the final hot water treatment makes this a refreshing and unparalleled masterpiece. It can be used by both men and women.
It comes with a matching fan case (hemp) and a luxurious paulownia wood box with a fabric lining, making it an ideal gift for your loved ones.
