Ojiya-chijimi [UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage, Nationally Designated Important Intangible Cultural Property]
This exquisite fabric is made by painstakingly weaving ramie fibers, a high-quality linen, into a single long thread. The prepared warp threads are then meticulously woven with individually patterned weft threads, matching each design as it's woven. It is said that 900 hand movements are required to weave just one shaku (approximately 30.3 cm).
The distinct personalities of the stripes in each color of Ojiya-chijimi add elegant hues, and the unique crepes (shibo) created by the final hot water treatment give it an unparalleled, refreshing feel. This item is unisex and can be used by both men and women.
It comes with a matching fan case (linen) and a high-quality paulownia wood box lined with fabric, making it an ideal gift for someone special.
