Ojiya Chijimi [UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage, Nationally Designated Important Intangible Cultural Property]
High-quality ramie, a type of hemp, is finely crushed and joined together to create a long thread. This thread is then meticulously woven into a warp, with patterned weft threads carefully aligned one by one to form the design. It is said that 900 hand movements are required to weave just one shaku (approximately 30 cm) of fabric.
The unique character of each color, woven into the stripes of Ojiya Chijimi, adds an elegant touch, while the distinctive "shibo" (crepe texture) created by the final hot-water shrinking process results in a refreshingly unique masterpiece. It can be used by both men and women.
It comes with a matching fan case (hemp) and a luxurious paulownia wood box lined with fabric, making it an ideal gift for someone special.
